ESCO Vertasys Tooth System: Durable excavator teeth & wheel loader teeth for maximum productivity
Lukas WürthShare
Are you looking for a modern, extremely robust tooth system for your construction machinery that minimizes unscheduled downtime and simplifies tooth replacement? With the ESCO Vertasys, manufacturer ESCO® presents its 8th generation of tooth systems for construction machinery. Based on decades of expertise and advanced simulations, this tooth system offers a customized solution for demanding applications in earthmoving, quarrying, and demolition.
Whether you need a suitable excavator tooth for difficult digging work or a wear-resistant wheel loader tooth for high impact conditions – the ESCO Vertasys tooth system sets new standards in durability, safety, and economic efficiency.
Why the ESCO Vertasys Tooth System Revolutionizes the Construction Site
-
Vertically Integrated, Hammerless Retention
The core of the Vertasys system is the vertical retention, which is fully protected inside the tooth. This protects the retention mechanism from damage and abrasive wear. Installation and removal are effortless: with a simple 90° turn using a standard ratchet wrench with a hex bit, the retention can be locked and unlocked. A heavy hammer is no longer needed, which completely eliminates the risk of injury from flying metal fragments.
-
Higher Strength and Longer Service Life
Superior stability: In tensile load tests, the Vertasys retention proved to be up to 1.9 times more stable compared to the predecessor system Ultralok®. More massive nose: The tooth retention noses have an average of 23% more strength under a wide range of load conditions. Outstanding tooth strength: Vertasys teeth offer up to 2.5 times higher strength in key areas than Ultralok teeth. Higher through-hardening: The proven ESCO alloy offers on average over 10% higher through-hardening than competitor systems, which can increase the service life by up to 20%. Optimized tooth profiles: The revised profiles offer up to 15% more service life and improve bucket loading and penetration behavior.
-
A Universal Tooth Adapter for Excavators and Wheel Loaders
A major economic advantage of ESCO Vertasys is the standardization of adapters. The tooth adapters have been designed with a uniform nose angle that is optimally suited for both excavators and wheel loaders. Less inventory: You no longer need to stock different adapter types for excavators and wheel loaders, which significantly reduces your storage costs. Faster assembly: Linear shank welds and universal slotted corner tooth adapters shorten the installation time per bucket by up to 30 minutes.
Tooth Shapes, Sizes and Matching Accessories
The ESCO Vertasys tooth system is available in various sizes (including VT45, VT55, and VT60) and covers the entire spectrum of excavator and wheel loader applications.
Variety of Tooth Shapes for Every Ground Type
Depending on the application, you need the optimal tooth shape to maximize bucket fill and minimize material wear on the adapter:
- Standard Tooth (S): The all-rounder for universal digging work.
- Chisel Tooth (C) & HD Chisel Tooth (H): For light to medium penetration and hard ground.
- Spade Tooth (F): Ideal for grading and clean trench bottoms.
- Penetration Tooth (P) & Twin Penetration Tooth (TP): Maximum penetration in heavily compacted or rocky ground.
- Loading Tooth AP (Abrasion/Penetration) & HD Loading Tooth A (Abrasion): Specially optimized for abrasive materials in wheel loader applications.

How to Replace Teeth on ESCO Vertasys Step-by-Step
Thanks to the well-thought-out system design, replacing excavator and wheel loader teeth is extremely simple and ergonomic:
Step-by-Step Installation:
- Cleaning & Inspection: Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the tooth adapter nose from dirt and fine particles. Check the nose for wear, cracks, or deformation.
- Slide on the Tooth: Slide the new Vertasys tooth onto the adapter nose until it is fully seated. Make sure the integrated retention is on the side of the recess on the adapter nose.
- Lock the Retention: Insert the appropriate hex bit (e.g., 17 mm for VT45, 19 mm for VT55 and VT60) with a ratchet into the top of the retention and turn it 90° clockwise until it stops. Visually check that the locking lug is against the recess of the tooth.
- Insert Protective Cap (optional, but recommended): Press the optional protective cap (Fines Cap) into the hex recess. It protects the recess from compacted earth particles and significantly facilitates subsequent removal.
Step-by-Step Removal:
- Remove Protective Cap & Clean: Pry out the protective cap with a lifting tool and remove dirt from the hex recess.
- Unlock the Retention: Place the hex bit and turn the retention 90° counter-clockwise until it stops.
- Remove the Tooth: Pull the tooth off the adapter nose. For tightly seated teeth, you can use a crowbar between the rear tooth shoulder and the adapter.
Important Safety Note: Never use a hammer or sledgehammer to loosen or drive in hardened steel parts. Flying metal fragments can cause serious injury.
