What does FOPS mean and how does it differ from ROPS?
FOPS stands for Falling Object Protective Structure and refers to a cab guard for operator cabs against falling objects. A FOPS guard is particularly useful for excavators in demolition work, where objects can fall onto the cab from above. However, FOPS is also beneficial in applications where objects can strike the cab from the front.
ROPS stands for Roll Over Protective Structure and refers to a cab guard for operator cabs to prevent the machine from rolling over or tipping over. A ROPS protective structure is particularly useful when working in rough terrain or on embankments where the machine could lose traction and overturn.
The main difference summarized briefly:
FOPS: Protects the cabin from hazards from above (e.g., falling stones during demolition).
ROPS: Protects the cabin from the consequences of a rollover (prevents the cabin from being crushed).
Source: Safety standards for construction machinery: ROPS, TOPS, FOPS
What makes our FOPS cab guards special?
Safety: All our demolition guards are certified to ISO 10262 Category 2. This means they offer maximum protection during heavy-duty operations such as demolition work: the structure can withstand even massive impacts of 227 kg from a height of 5 metres (11,600 joules).
Quality: All our cab guards are manufactured from the highest quality steel at our factory in Germany (Wolfach).
Years of experience: We have been manufacturing FOPS demolition guards for over a decade. During this time, we have continuously optimised our designs based on extensive customer feedback. This means you receive a highly sophisticated, proven product.
Simplicity: Each cab guard is manufactured to fit the respective excavator model perfectly. For you, this means that you can simply attach the guard to the existing screw attachment points on the cab and do not need to carry out any welding work.
Multifunctional: Our latest demolition guard innovation – the PROTECTOR E4 – features a hinged roof grille, fan-shaped grille struts at the front for improved visibility, and a front grille that can be swung down. The lowering mechanism is supported by gas pressure springs, making it easy to lower the grille in seconds. This is particularly useful for changing applications where you want to be able to remove the front protection flexibly.
